LeakyCon 2023

You may have all noticed something has happened, and yes that means I’ve finally bought my domain name and will be looking to update the site in a bit. I’ve decided to go all in on the blog just for me. So I hope to be bringing you more content moving forward!

August has been jammed packed full of opportunities for me, and the first of which was going to my very first LeakyCon! This is something that I had been dreaming about for at least a decade, but somehow growing up and having adult responsibilities made it more of a challenge than expected.

I was able to meet up with my dear friends who run ETL Echo, (which I’ll dig into in another post) other fans, and content creators. The highlight for me was the night of the LeakyCon Ball, getting to dress up in my HerUniverse Padme dress and dance with friends before going on to more shenanigans? Perfect.

There are guest spotlights which feature some of the show’s actors, but panels are largely fan ran which I adore! They are so niche and creative I was so excited, because most of the fandom has divorced JKR from her art these panels allowed for a deep and creative examination of a world that we grew up with and love. I won’t lie, I am slightly sad I hadn’t gone in the past to get more Harry Potter specific panels (Like one comparing James Potter and Draco Malfoy and who deserved a redemption arc) as this year was the first year that they tried to expand to other fantasy, which I think will be good for growth, but I’ll miss the deep HPnerdom that existed.

However, I did enjoy getting to listen to Sean Astin, Elijah Wood, and Miranda Otto talk about their current lives and how their careers . The convention, and everyone there was careful to support the current strikes that are going on at Hollywood right now so most specifics on productions weren’t able to be discussed but it allowed for creative conversations and us to learn more about the actors themselves, Sean was great in particular because he’s on the negotiating table for the striking.

I also joined one of my friends and went to the Cauldron popup for drinks, and it was a great time! Their aesthetic was delightful and I wish I’d gotten the boozy “potion making” session. I did wear two of my cosplays, though my very casual ones this time, SavySami’s Ginny Holyhead Harpies cosplay (minus the tatoos since I forgot a marker) and my standard Hermione Granger/Mia Potter (blue timeturner included)! Mostly I just wanted to enjoy the trip and fun but minimal effort was just the ticket! I wish I’d gotten more photos of all the other cosplays because I’ve never seen more niche or detailed cosplays than I did at LeakyCon, but you’ll have to do with what I collected below!

Finally, I was able to film a tiktok with Professor McGonagall and Draco *ahem* Chanel and Em *ahem. And had such a good time!! You’ll see more on either my cosplay tiktok or my book/fandom tiktok accounts!

More conventions and Renaissance Fairs are coming this fall, right now I’m in the middle of a big build for NYCC so make sure to follow my social medias to stay up to date!
