Okay team who is ready for a soft, feisty, and fun romcom?
If you haven’t read Well Met by Jen DeLuca yet then I recommend throwing it on your TBR now. As we’ve seen from my backlog of mostly fantasy and historical fiction I don’t delve into romcom territory often, but I feel like I need to more now.
Emily, or Emma when she’s at faire, is someone that I highly identified with even if I didn’t let an ex-boyfriend completely ruin my plans for the future, Emily’s determination and her love of family above all, completely won me over. Set in a small town with an older sibling that she is just now connecting with so many elements just screamed “ME” back at me. Including the adorable niece that is similar distances in age as a sibling.
But it was her conversations and chemistry with Simon, his determination, his leather pirate pants, and their not-quite-enemies-to-lovers that stole the show. Simon is someone trying to carry on a family legacy and his clutching so hard to the past was both understandable and painful in the worst ways.
Surrounded by a solid cast only lead to a sweeter storytelling that you won’t want to set down. True friendships are to me a necessary part of a story because they make up the ribcage that the heart of the love story is laid in. So please enjoy all the giggling gossip and buff men in kilts as you can over the course of this adorable novel.
I won’t lie, the miscommunication aspect gave me major anxiety and second degree embarrassment, but that’s a romcom trope that the story isn’t complete without, and I’m just a baby when it comes to things like this.
I cannot wait to read the rest of the standalones set in this world, as well as figure out how I can make my very own Emma cosplay for faire.
