I started this as my first “you’re done with grad school” fluff that I could do after I’d turned in my thesis to my advisor. I was looking for an easy to read romance. Well I got it, and it did hit what should have been all my favorite notes in a Scottish romance, but I didn’t fall in love with it.
One of the hardest things for me is when there is nearly instant love. I don’t always need a four book slow burn *cough Susan Dennard’s Witchland Series*, but I do like when the burn takes long enough to build.
I think that to me everything seemed slightly rushed. How quickly Maggie gets instilled into the Cameron’s lives. Also how some of the side characters seemed very two dimensional. Overall, if there had been just a bit more book to develop everything over I think it would have done the story a bit more justice.
I enjoyed the history employed around the story. The plotline is grabbing, the writing flows, and the world building is done well. Truly this is a good tale, it just fell a bit flat for me. I would recommend taking it as a beach read, or looking for what Lori Ann puts out in the future.
