This is the first middle-grade novel that I’ve read as an adult. I needed a quick little read, that would cure me of a book hangover, and Ms. Schwab, per usual, did not disappoint.
City of Ghosts, while set in our world also coincides with the streamlines of time past, when Cassidy Blake decides to relive a spirits death. I enjoyed Cass and her best friend, Jacob (who just happens to be a ghost). They were witty, and a well matched duo.
I truly loved that her parents are ghost-hunters and it is reminiscent of Danny Phantom on TV, however these ghosts are at once more simplistic and more sinister. Cass’s relationship with her parents is real and heartwarming, completely encompassing the joys and frustrations of family.
Additionally, as someone who also adores Scotland, and Edinburgh in particular, to travel there once again with Cass and her parents was lovely. A city filled with rich history, and Ms. Schwab makes sure that we “see” it to the full extent.
Interesting characters, lovely world building, history, and a terrifying ghost world to learn about, City of Ghosts is well worth a read. I’d recommend traveling with Cassidy and Blake to solve the mysteries of time past, any cozy afternoon!

I don’t normally read middle-grade books, but this one has been receiving really positive reviews! plus I’m intrigued by the kitty on the cover ❤ I love feline companions!

I don’t either! But same, I’d heard so much. I actually didn’t realize it was a Middle Grade until after I had it!
