I am. So. Incredibly. Mad. I have a hate/love relationship with cliff-hangers. I understand why they’re used, and they’re are so incredibly effective. But I get all of the feelings and the emotions. I had a hard time going to sleep after I finished. That probably just shows how much I enjoyed it.
I enjoyed the first book. I thought it had a lot of potential, and I felt like The Sight just blended seamlessly into the next part of the series. Almost less like a second book and more like there had been no gap in between. Which I appreciate.
Oh, and as if I wasn’t already interested in reading, the book hooks your in with all-out bang and it doesn’t stop. That may be the thing I touched on last time, that again is a critique. I felt as if I sprinted the whole way through the book. Miss Neill makes it work, but I understand why some people don’t like that.
Next, one moment I thought I had this world figured out, only to realize that Miss Neill understands humans, our country, and the people in it incredibly well. She might write about the supernatural, but I think the strangest thing we encounter in her novels is the the fickleness of humanity.
Now, I appreciate a slow-burn romance. And after the line drawn in the sand between Claire and Liam I think it just ratcheted everything up a few notches. Oh my goodness. That tension. So thick you could cut it with a knife. Neill likes to play with your and the characters emotions I’ll say that one.
And just when you think that maybe one element of this series is going to be tied off with a nice bow. It gets blown to smithereens. Once again, I love how Neill was able to encompass humanity. This includes the tenacity of stubborn people who love their home. What war can do to them, and love.
Somehow this cast of characters became effortless. They were interesting and we learned so much about them in book one. And I know I asked for character development, and this is exactly what I wanted. We saw the development we weren’t told it. To me I think this is what made me love this book so much more than the first one. I could go on about them. Malachi, Tadji, Eleanor, the whole crew. But I’ll let you see for yourself. The Veil was good. The Sight made the world real.
As I’m on the edge of my seat, I can’t wait to see what comes in the next chapter of the Devils Isle installment. I hope you’re well rested because this novel is going to be a race to the finish. Good news, we don’t have to wait much longer for The Hunt. I’ll have the review to you in time for release day! Here’s to more of Claire’s adventures!

I would be stamping my little foot, foaming at the mouth, and spewing invectives as I despise cliffhangers… unless I already have the next book loaded on my kindle 😉

Love a good supernatural read, but agree with you on the cliffhangers… they can make it hard to enjoy if I know I have to wait months before the next book is released

I love books that keep me on my toes, but I hate cliff hangers. At the same time, I may risk it just to get the thrill of reading a well rounded book.
