Neon Gods by Katee Roberts

If anyone is looking for a smutty, plot heavy, Hades and Persephone retelling romance this is your jam. If you haven’t heard of this book you might be hiding under a rock, I finally picked up a copy and it was *chefs kiss*.

I’ve needed a break from my deep fantasy, long reads. This was just what I wanted. I devoured it in one afternoon, it would have been one sitting if my train hadn’t arrived back home. Persephone is both the delicate but fierce, and Hades is the cold, dark boy with a heart of gold. Granted he’s also still scary, but he’s a great leader and that means the world.

I loved how they sparked on the page. Their chemistry was quick but believable, and boy are they extra steamy when they finally let their guard down. I appreciated how this shows a more realistic sub/dom relationship than other well known erotica books *cough cough Shades of Grey cough cough* and they actually negotiate and talk about what they’re feeling and what they are okay with.

Additionally, all the other characters are well thought out and I love that she brings some of my favorite goddesses together as sisters under Demeter as their mother. The additional stories in this world are going to be an automatic read from me. The whole cast is well rounded and they play together so well, I enjoy that Hades doesn’t have friends but others have basically adopted him without him knowing, 100% on brand.

The world Katee has built is rock solid and feels like a real place, even set somewhere in the United States, and yet far away like it’s not quite on this plane. The city is so interesting to me, but I loved finding places that Hades loved and how the history of the place played into the difference between the upper and lower city.

All in all this is one to throw on you Read Right Now list. Seriously, and then come chat with me about it!
