Oh. My. Absolute. Lord.
Things become cult classics for a reason. I fully admit, I read this book because of the show that came out on Amazon Prime. It had been on my TBR forever, and well with David Tennant playing in the show I knew I had to read it.
I was able to listen to it via audiobook, thanks libby!, and I couldn’t recommend that more. However, I will warn you that I had a hard time not cackling in public. It is so funny. The characters are so vivid.
A similar style to The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy, being third person omnicient gives you… a unique and often hysterical viewpoint to everything that is going on. Let me tell you, the end of the world is a cluster and not quite in the way you would think.
Angels and Demons, Witches with strange viewpoints on history, crazed witchfinders who are completely inept at their job, psychics who may be doing more on the side, and a young boy born as the son of satan who could end or save the world. It piles together to be fun, and yet hit on pieces of the world is such true form that you’ll be left thinking about it.
Additionally, I did go watch the TV show afterward, and it was true to character. It elaborated in areas that needed it visually, and pulled so much from the main dialogue of the novel it was almost eerie.
This has won its way to my favorite books shelf in a heartbeat. I know this is a story I will come back to again and again.
