Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand

Some books are simply perfect for certain times of the year. I could not give you a better example that Claire’s Sawkill Girls. It’s filled with the fall, halloween-time vibe. With dark mystery, cults, cruel monsters, magic, disappearing girls, all wrapped up with three main characters who are unabashedly amazing. Consumed by their own horrors, tragedy, or inner struggles Zoey, Val, and Marion take you on a terrifying adventure.

As you all know, Claire is one of my favorite authors, and her take on strong female characters was amazing. Zoey, Val, and Marion are all so different and yet highlight feminine strength in different ways. She understands the challenges of love and friendship, of family and loss. Characters are truly one of Claire’s strong points.

However, her beautiful descriptions and world building is another one of my favorite points of this book. Truly Sawkill is it’s own character, and the story would not be the same without it.

Additionally, this is one of the first books that I’ve read with ace rep. It truly expressed the differences between asexual and aromantic, and highlighted the challenges and strengths of being in an ace relationship. Claire includes not only ace, but bi representation and queer love. I know that this is one area I need to be better about reading, more queer rep, and I’m so incredibly grateful to find it written here.

Claire created another addicting novel you need to pick up. I promise you won’t want to put it down. I didn’t.
