The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater

The hunt for Glendower is ending.
This is the year Blue Sargent falls in love.
This is the year ‘just Gansey’ dies.

In this final book of the series, Maggie once again outdoes herself. I finished with tears on my cheeks, a heart that swears it had just ran a marathon, and a million more questions about the world that she built.

This story is one about family, both those we are born with and those we find. It’s about friendship, and what that truly means. It’s about trust and second-chances. It’s about making a choice.

With a bleak outlook, and the difference between dreams and nightmares converging, our team has once again decided to do something dangerous. Looking to save the world, or change it for the better, is once again thrown in with the realistic expectations of what it means to go to high school, to fall in love, to live with grief, and to deal with the challenges of what it means to be part of a family.

While this is the last chapter of TRC, this is also a book about looking forward to the future, or a lack thereof, and learning of how to live for today, how to handle setbacks, and how to push forward to find the person you’re growing into.

Maggie destroyed my heart, opened my mind, and did it while being completely honest about what our world is, what it could be, and how every situation comes with a little bit of humor. I’m so grateful to have been able to join along on this strange journey, and I’m beyond excited to read the companion series on Ronan coming out this fall.

Here’s to all our strange and wonderful friends, who live in this strange and wonderful world with us.
