Wow. And the fever dream continues.
Personally, reading this series has been like an addiction. I flew through the story, which again seems to be a testament to Maggie’s writing.
This book focuses on Ronan’s character. His murky backstory. The familial complications. It’s amazing to see how Maggie is able to show that the person with potentially the darkest shadows, the grumpiest demeanor, is so filled with possibility, creativity, and well… dreams. This book is a beautiful reminder that not all powerful and grumpy people are bad, and that the gentle and sweet people have sharp edges.
This book so beautifully handles temptation, control, and how that impacts our relationships. She shows this in the growth of Ronan, the challenges and self-destruction that Adam attempts to go through, Gansey’s loss of self, and Blue’s self-exploration.
This is mirrored in the erratic magic that is pouring through the city, and the expansion of how magic works through dreams and ley lines as Maggie continues to slowly build the world around the ‘Gang-sey’.
This novel seems to sweep you up and chew you up, in the best of ways. Your heart will be pounding, and I hope that you enjoy the continuation of some of my favorite characters in the strange little town of Henrietta.
